Lotus root curry (kamal kakdi sabzi)

Ingredients
A pack of cleaned and cut lotus roots (Available at any Asian store)
1/2 cup green peas
1 medium onion
2 medium tomatoes 
3-4 garlic cloves
1 inch ginger 
1-2 green chilly pepper
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp turmeric 
1 tsp red chilly powder 
Salt to taste
Oil for tempering

Recipe:

1. Remove the pre cut lotus root from package and wash thoroughly.


2. Make a paste of onions, chilly, garlic and ginger. Keep it seperate. Then make tomato puree. Keep it seperate.

3. To oil splutter cumin seeds. 

4. Add turmeric powder.

5. Add onion paste and saute.

6. Add tomato puree and cook till oil starts oozing out and all water is dried. It takes good 7-10 minutes on medium flame.

7. Finally add lotus root and microwaved cooked peas. Cook until the lotus root until soft about 7-10 minutes.  Add garam masala powder.

8. Garnish with chopped cilantro.

9. Serve with hot rotis or rice.
