Homemade hummus

Hummus is a middle eastern recipe that combines chickpeas, sesame and garlic in a innovative combination that is enjoyed with minimal oil and relies on the goodness of sesame seeds and garlic flavor in a bland chickpea base. This is best enjoyed as a spread on a whole wheat pita bread or bread of your choice with butter (my personal favorite) or as a dip with carrots and salad raw vegetables such as cauliflower, celery.

Find below a few step easy to make at home recipe with few fresh ingredients and share with your friends and family :)

Ingredients:
1 can chickpeas or raw chickpeas soaked overnight and cooked till soft
2-3 garlic cloves
1-2 tbp homemade Tahini (follow my recipe)
Salt to taste

Recipe:

1. Wash canned chickpeas thoroughly and drain all the water. OR if you are using raw chickpeas, soak overnight and cook till soft either in pressure cooker for 15-20 minutes or on medium flame over stove.

2. In a mixer, make a paste of chickpeas and chopped garlic. Add water in small quantities to maintain paste consistency.

3. This is the right consistency that can used for sandwiches or as a dip.

4. Add tahini paste and salt to taste. Some recipes add a tsp of olive oil. I left it out since the oil was in tahini in form of olive oil and also sesame seeds.

5. Stir to mix contents evenly and that is it a homemade hummus for your friends and family is ready. Use it as a dip with carrots and other vegetables or as on bread. To help it last longer, take out small portions per serving and refrigerate the remaining. Also no double dipping in the container that gets refrigerated! Small portions on your plate and enjoy!
